The Seychelles Archipelago comprises of 115 islands, spread over 1 million km2 of the Western Indian Ocean, Northeast of Madagascar with a total land area of 444km2. The 42 islands of granitic origin with narrow coastal strips and central ranges of hills rising up to their highest point – 900m at Morne Seychellois on Mahe, are referred to as the ‘Inner or Granitic Islands’. This is where most people visit and are most inhabited. The other 73 islands, referred to as the ‘Outer or Coral Islands’ are to the south of Mahe, of which many are uninhabited, have few visitors per annum and are totally spectacular!
